The Huge Hand of Fate repeatedly reaches into the life of Richard Kimble

Fate's Huge Hand

Fate has a way of repeatedly reaching into Dr. Richard Kimble's amazing life. At the start of Kimble's epic adventure, its huge inscrutible hand intervenes even while he is en route to the deathhouse, lifting the train he is riding right off its tracks as if it were merely a cheap miniature model. And throughout Dr. Kimble's years on the run, certain fateful constellations of events keep recurring. For instance, he always seems to be helping children wherever he goes; perhaps he's been a pediatrician for so long that it comes to him as second nature. And he's frequently forced to overcome debilitating physical ailments, such as amnesia, blindness and gunshot wounds, even while engaged in his life-or-death struggle with his relentless pursuer, Lieutenant Gerard. Gerard in fact shows he is not entirely unaware of these ``patterns'' in the episode THE 2130, when he endeavors to use then-state-of-the-art computer technology to plot Kimble's movements. Here are a few more of the motifs that Kimble seems fated to run into over and over again . . .
